RESOLANA

I came across this website on Twitter. Resolana is a community based non-profit organization that provides "holistic, gender-sensitive rehab programs" to women at the Dallas County Jail. I encourage you to visit their website: http://www.resolana.info/about.htm.

Be sure to look at their art exhibit and watch the video showing the programing offered by this innovative group. Some great ideas here for those in ministry and aftercare!

By the way "resolana" is Spanish for warming wall, the sunny side of a building or plaza, a protected place where the warmth absorbed by the adobe walls draws people to gather together and talk.

I'm so impressed with your program. Way to go!

  1. Thank you! It's great to hear from someone who's also working to help incarcerated women. Unfortunately Texas has more women in its prisons than any other state. Dallas County Jail held about 21,000 women during 2009 and at any given time there's about 900 women living behind bars at the county jail. Most of them are in dire need of substance abuse treatment and other assistance/support.
It sounds like your weekly group would fit well with our holistic programming -- too bad you're so far away! I invite you to send a post to our blog, telling a bit more about what you're doing. Send it to resolana.blog@gmail.com We'd love to see your collection of stories and perhaps share them with the women we serve.
